United States deployed stealth fighter jets to South Korea

U.S.deploys  jets to S. Korea, The United States deployed stealth fighter jets to South Korea on Sunday as part of ongoing joint military exercises between the two countries, a senior U.S. defense official said.

The F-22 Raptors were sent to the main U.S. Air Force Base in South Korea amid spiking tensions on the Korean peninsula. The U.S. military command in South Korea said they were deployed to support air drills as part of the annual Foal Eagle training exercises, which are carried out in accordance with the armistice that put an end to armed hostilities in 1953.
North Korea has been ramping up its rhetoric and military show of force in response to the annual joint military exercises, declaring the armistice invalid on March 11, 10 days after Foal Eagle began. It is something Pyongyang has done before during heightened tensions.

Simpsons producer dies

Simpsons producer dies,  an award-winning writer and producer of "The Simpsons" and screenwriter of the 2011 blockbuster "Thor" as well as "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" and "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," Don Payne, died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles, said his friend and former writing partner John Frink. He was 48 and had bone cancer.

Payne was most recently a consulting producer on "The Simpsons," Fox's long-running animated series. Two episodes he wrote are in production and will air in the fall: "Labor Pains" and the Christmas installment, "White Christmas Blues."

Payne won four Emmys for his work on the series and also received the Writers Guild of America's prestigious Paul Selvin Award in 2005 for the "Fraudcast News" episode.

He made the transition to screenwriting with "My Super Ex-Girlfriend," the 2006 comedy starring Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson about a bachelor who discovers his girlfriend is a superhero.

"Much to my wife's chagrin, I am a superhero geek," Payne told The Times that year. "Definitely growing up I was into comics and became a comedy writer as an adult, so I put the two things together."

Born May 5, 1964, in Wilmington, N.C., Payne received his bachelor's degree in film and television and a master's in screenwriting from UCLA. He intended to write movies until he began collaborating with Frink out of college. "I wanted to do films, he wanted to do television," Payne told The Times in the 2006 interview.

They decided to work in whatever medium they first got a job. So they ended up writing for "Hope & Gloria," "The Brian Benben Show" and other sitcoms. The two joined the writing staff of "The Simpsons" in 1998 and became part of the producing team in 2000. Among the nine episodes they wrote together were "Insane Clown Puppy," "The Bart Wants What It Wants" and "Old Yeller-Belly."

Payne is survived by his wife, Julie; their sons, Nathaniel and Joshua; their daughter, Lila; his mother, Barbara Payne; a brother, John Payne, and a sister, Suzanne Fanning.

A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 W. Centinela Ave., Los Angeles.

Judge Judy's son interfering in a child rape case

Judge Judy's son is accused of interfering in a child rape case, in which the suspect is his personal trainer and recently lived with him.

Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy has recused himself from the investigation of Alexandru Hossu but the local sheriff claims Levy is still involved.

"He is apparently trying to influence and affect the investigation, which could be perceived as an ethical violation of his official duties and perhaps even as an attempt to undermine it," Sheriff Donald Smith says.

Levy on Monday night accused the sheriff of making "unfounded allegations and misstatements".

"My office acted properly in every aspect of the investigation," he said.

The question of Levy's involvement in the case has turned into a volley of accusations between the two men, who have clashed publicly before.

Hossu, 35, was arrested last week on charges he twice raped a 12-year-old girl in 2010.

The sheriff said the victim, now 15, only recently reported being raped.

Hossu made a brief appearance in court on Tuesday and is due back on May 7.

A call to his lawyer was not immediately returned.

In his initial news release, the sheriff gave the defendant's address as Levy's home in Southeast, New York. Later, he described Hossu as Levy's "live-in personal trainer".

Levy said the sheriff had made a mistake.

The sheriff's office said on Monday Hossu did live at Levy's home but "the specific dates" have not been determined.

Levy said he recused himself as soon as he learned Hossu, "who my family had known for years", was under investigation.

But the sheriff said an assistant district attorney had already made the recusal decision for Levy, so it "was not really his original idea at all".

Smith said Levy's commenting on the case revealed "ongoing and improper involvement".

"In my view, Mr Levy's comments and actions would seem to suggest that, if he could have his own way, Mr Hossu would never have been brought to justice for his crime and Mr Levy's relationship with him would never have been brought to the light of public scrutiny," the sheriff said.

Actress Jessica Brown Findlay regrets going topless

Topless scene regret; Actress Jessica Brown Findlay regrets going topless in 2011 movie Albatross and concedes she was "naive" for agreeing to strip off.

The former Downton Abbey star plays a teenager who has an affair with an older man in the film, and one scene shows her flashing her chest to prove her age.

However, Brown Findlay wishes she had turned down the request to show her breasts, telling the Radio Times, "To be honest, Albatross was naivety and not knowing that I could say no. I had no idea what was going to happen and thought I was going to be shot from behind."

The actress also sheds her clothes in upcoming TV drama Labyrinth, an adaptation of Kate Mosse's best-selling novel, but insists she will never strip off on camera again.

She adds, "I think if you're going to do a nude scene, be honest and natural. Otherwise I'd be starving myself for ever, which I just couldn't do! The idea that actresses would work out at the gym for a thousand hours beforehand... I was drinking pints (of beer) and eating burgers. But actually, it's not something I would do again."

Rock Band Splits, The band members of My Chemical Romance

Rock Band Splits, The band members of My Chemical Romance announced Friday that they were splitting up after more than a decade together, according to their website.

The rock band, comprised of Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Mikey Way and Frank Iero, formed in 2001. They went on to record four studio albums, one of which, The Black Parade, was nominated for a Grammy in 2008.

"Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing," their statement read. "We've gotten to go places we never knew we would. We've been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We've shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."

Band leader Way also tweeted his sadness that the band had broken up. "We were spectacular. Every show I knew this, every show I felt it with or without external confirmation. There were some clunkers, sometimes our secondhand gear broke, sometimes I had no voice — we were still great. It is this belief that made us who we were, but also many other things, all of them vital. And all of the things that made us great were the very things that were going to end us. I want to thank every single fan. I have learned from you, maybe more than you think you've learned from me. My Chemical Romance is done. But it can never die. It is alive in me, in the guys and it is alive inside all of you. I always knew that, and I think you did too."

New Pepsi bottle, Pepsi is rolling out a new shape

New Pepsi bottle
New Pepsi bottle, Pepsi is rolling out a new shape for its 567-gram bottle for the first time in about 17 years. The new bottle has a contoured bottom half that appears easier for holding, and the wraparound label is shorter so that more of the drink is exposed.

The change follows a number of splashy moves in the past year by PepsiCo to improve results for its namesake soda, including a multi-year deal to sponsor the Super Bowl halftime show and a wide-ranging deal with the pop star Beyonce. PepsiCo Inc, based in Purchase, New York, has been working to revitalize the brand after losing market share to Coca-Cola Co in recent years.

Andrea Foote, a PepsiCo spokeswoman, said the new bottle is part of the company's ongoing update of marketing and packaging materials for the cola. The single-serve bottles, which are widely sold in coolers at drugstores and other retailers, will begin rolling out in April.

Foote said it will take a year or two before the new bottles entirely replace the current bottles, which the company says were introduced in 1996. Coca-Cola, based in Atlanta, says its current 567 gram contour bottle made its US debut in 1993. Small changes were made over the years, such as making the surface easier to grip and shortening the neck of the bottle.

Double Amputee Humiliated, A double amputee was allegedly humiliated by TSA staff

Double Amputee Humiliated, A double amputee was allegedly humiliated by TSA staff as he attempted to take a flight to San Diego last week.

Marine Cpl. Toran Gaal, who is a double amputee assigned to the Wounded Warrior Battalion at Camp Pendleton, was allegedly asked to get out of his wheelchair and move by a TSA staff member, according to an eye-witness.

Gaal, who lost both his legs to an Improvised Explosive Device in Sangin Province, Afghanistan, and some fellow injured Marines had traveled to the Phoenix area last week for a baseball spring training fundraiser. However, it was upon his return flight that the incident reportedly took place.

The reports have sparked outrage among some, and Congressman Duncan Hunter has now written a letter to the TSA demanding answers. In the letter he describes how Gaal's legs were exposed and removed in the exchange with the TSA staff, and he believes this "humiliated" the marine.

However, the TSA has responded to the criticism saying that closed-circuit television footage at Arizona's Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on March 13 showed Gaal going through a TSA checkpoint, and that the same footage did not show him being forced to remove his prosthetic legs.

The TSA has told the Arizona Republic in a statement: "Preliminary review of CCTV indicates there was no removal of prosthetic limbs."

Seth MacFarlane has split from Games of Thrones girlfriend Emilia Clarke

Seth MacFarlane has split from Games of Thrones girlfriend Emilia Clarke, according to a new report. Clarke, who is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the show reportedly split from the 39 year-old Oscar host recently due to filming pressures keeping them apart after just a few months.

The 25 year-old blonde reportedly caught the TV producers eye last September at the HBO Emmy Party.

"They are no longer dating," a source told E!News. "It was really a location challenge. She has been in Europe shooting 'Game of Thrones' and he is based in California, so it was hard to make it work despite the distance. They have remained friends."

Ahead of his hosting duties at this year's Academy Awards Seth praised his girlfriend's support,he told Entertainment Weekly: "She is an incredibly kind, supremely talented person, and one of the hardest-working people I have ever met.”

The break-up comes after Charlize Theron was reportedly enamoured by the witty host at the Oscars this year. She reportedly spent all night near the host, at an after party following the star studded show.

“Charlize finds Seth to be a great guy who not only makes her laugh but has so much on the ball,” an insider told the Chicago Sun Times after the Oscars.

“This is early, but I see a new relationship brewing,”

12-year-old boy arrested

12-year-old boy arrested after suspected of making the fake emergency call caused A Minnesota school district locked down several buildings Wednesday, authorities later said was a prank.

The 8 a.m. emergency call prompted a lockdown at the middle school, high school and Central Education Campus buildings in New Prague, 45 miles southwest of Minneapolis. The male caller said he was inside one of the school buildings, Scott County Sheriff Kevin Studnicka said.

"He claimed he needed help because there was a shooter in the building with an AK-47 and that there were a couple of victims," Studnicka said. When dispatchers asked for the caller's cellphone number, he claimed it was a new phone and he didn't know the number, the sheriff said.

Police Chief Mark Vosejpka said police and deputies quickly determined no one was hurt and zeroed in on the 12-year-old boy. Vosejpka didn't explain what led them to suspect the boy.

Parents rushing to the scene were directed to a nearby church. Students were dismissed from the schools by late morning. Classes were canceled for the rest of the day but were expected to resume Thursday.

The middle and high schools have a combined enrollment of 2,067.

It was the second such disruption in the district this year. Two months ago, a student phoned in a bomb threat, Superintendent Larry Kauzlarich said. That student was expelled.

Twinkies sale approved

Twinkies sale approved   to a pair of investment firms by  judge on Tuesday, one of which has said it hopes to have the cakes back on shelves by summer.

Hostess Brands Inc. is selling Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ho Hos and other brands to Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co. for $410 million. Evan Metropoulos, a principal of the latter firm, said in an interview that he wants to have the snack cakes back on shelves by June and that the brands could benefit from new flavors and other product extensions.

Twinkies sale approved

"There's no mistake, we've got to move smartly, we've got to move quickly," Metropoulos said.

He also said that comedians Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are at the top of his "wish list" for potential pitchmen. But he doesn't plan on formally approaching anyone about marketing deals until after the sale closes in coming weeks.

Metropoulos, which owns Pabst beer, has already used Ferrell in its ads. Apollo's investments include the fast-food chains Hardee's and Carl's Jr., which is known for indulgent burgers and splashy ads starring scantily clad women.

Judge Robert Drain of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of New York also approved the sale of Wonder bread to Flowers Foods, which makes Tastykakes and other breads. Flowers, based in Thomasville, Ga., would also get Nature's Pride, Butternut, Home Pride and Merita as part of the $360 million deal.

Hostess has said the Justice Department is reviewing that sale.

The sale of Beefsteak to Grupo Bimbo was also approved. Grupo Bimbo makes Entenmann's cakes and Thomas' English muffins and is paying $31.9 million for the regional bread brand.

A separate hearing is scheduled for April 9 to approve the sale of Drake's cakes, which include Devil Dogs and Yodels. Hostess picked McKee Foods, the maker of Little Debbie snack cakes, as the buyer for those brands at $27.5 million.

Nude beach shut down

Nude beach shut down, Wisconsin authorities announced Tuesday they will shut down one of nation's most popular nude beaches on weekdays after struggling for years to curtail sex and drugs on the sandbar and surrounding woods.

Nudists from around the country have been traveling to the public beach on the Wisconsin River near Mazomanie, about 25 miles northwest of Madison, for decades as word spread that prosecutors in ultra-liberal Dane County wouldn't go after anyone for showing skin. But visitors haven't stopped at just stripping down. They've been slipping off into the woods for trysts and drugs.

Authorities say that's crossing the line, but they haven't been able to stop the shenanigans. Their frustration reached a tipping point Tuesday, when the state Department of Natural Resources announced it will close the beach, the islands immediately off it and the surrounding woods to the public on weekdays, when wardens say troublemakers tend to operate unseen. The closures begin immediately. The area will remain open on weekends, though.

Bob Morton, executive director of the Austin, Tex.-based Naturist Action Committee, which lobbies on behalf of nudists, has visited the beach several times. He criticized the DNR for not consulting with beachgoers before closing the area.

"Honestly, we're on their side when it comes to enforcing things that are lewd and lascivious," Morton said. "There's something to be said about consulting the users of the place. There's got to be more to this somewhere."

UFC fighter jail

UFC fighter jail
UFC fighter jail, Nick Diaz caused quite a stir during the UFC 158 post-fight press conference following his unanimous decision loss to welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre in Montreal, revealing that he's never paid taxes in his life.
“I just have to invest a little more money (in training),” Diaz said when asked what he would do if he does stay in the UFC instead of retiring as he hinted at. “Now that I have a little bit more money. I've never paid taxes in my life and I'll probably go to jail.
“No one wants to hear about that, no one wants to hear about that kinda talk or what's really going on with me. I might as well just be a kid.”
UFC president Dana White told the media following the press conference that he's concerned about Diaz and his taxes, and that he'd rather have ninjas after him than the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
“At the end of the day, Nick has been in the sport forever, he wanted a shot at the title and he got a shot at the title and he got paid a lot of money for it,” White said. “What's sad is, he's gotta go pay his taxes, that's going to be (expletive); that will be sad.
“If someone doesn't take care of that kid and get him set straight, then you know. He came out here publicly tonight and said he's never paid taxes in his life. Holy (expletive)! I mean, that's bad. Somebody better handle that with his check and make sure that kid doesn't end up with nothing.”

A $22 minimum wage

A $22 minimum wage would be in place if it had kept up with increased rates in worker productivity, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has claimed, citing a recent study.

Warren made the claim as she made the case for increasing the minimum wage last week during a Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions hearing.

The senator said, "If we started in 1960 and we said that as productivity goes up, that is as workers are producing more, then the minimum wage is going to go up the same. And if that were the case then the minimum wage today would be about $22 an hour."

She was speaking to Dr. Arindrajit Dube, a University of Massachusetts Amherst professor who has studied the economic impacts of minimum wage. She added, "So my question is Mr. Dube, with a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, what happened to the other $14.75? It sure didn't go to the worker."

Dube further claimed that if the minimum wage had grown over that same period at the same pace as it had for the top 1 percent of income earners, then the minimum wage would in fact be closer to $33 an hour.

Warren took the opportunity to highlight the recent study, which claims to show flat minimum wage growth over the past 40-plus years. The study claims that this flat growth coincided coinciding with surging inequality across a number of economic indicators, according to The Huffington Post.

Lohan Misses Flight

Lohan Misses Flight, 26-year-old troubled actress Lindsay Lohan is scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles court on March 18 for lying to police and probation violations. If the "Mean Girls" star fails to appear, she faces a bench warrant for contempt of court. Apparently, Lohan is trying to find a flight that will get her out of New York to LA . Earlier this month, Lohan was allegedly offered a 90-day house arrest deal, but reportedly she turned it down. Examiner....

Lohan has tried to pull it together with a Playboy spread, a stint on SNL, being cast as Elizabeth Taylor, as a guest star of "Glee," and with work in "Scary Movie 5" and "The Canyons." Most would agree that none of it has helped pull her out of the hole of being an actress who is only in the headlines because of her troubles.

The actress has been in jail before, but for no substantial amount of time. As Rosie O'Donnell tweeted, "She needs help - nobody around her seems to get that - it's tragic what has become of her life - work isn't gonna fix her."

Lindsay Lohan misses her flight. If she doesn't show up in court on Monday, would you be surprised?

George Clinton divorce

George Clinton divorce, behind P-funk groups Parliament and Funkadelic, has filed from divorce from his wife of 22 years, Stephanie Lynn Clinton.

According to divorce documents filed in a Florida court and obtained by TMZ, Clinton and his wife were married in Toledo, Ohio, in 1990. Over the two decades of their marriage, the two “have experienced long term separation” and said the “marriage is irretriviably broken.”

The couple have no children together and, according to the court documents, share no bank accounts or property.

2013 did not start off well for Clinton. Last month, the funk legend was forced to hand over the copyrights to four of his songs in order to pay off over $1 million he owed to former lawyers. Hendricks & Lewis law firm, who worked for Clinton from 2005 to 2008, won a $1.5 million lawsuit against him in 2010 after claiming that he failed to pay their fees.

The firm later claimed that Clinton only paid $340,000, and a federal judge ordered that he hand over the copyrights to four of his songs in lieu of payment. The four songs were: “Hardcore Jollies,” “The Electric Spanking of War Babies,” “Uncle Jam Wants You,” and “One Nation Under a Groove.” The firm can now sell or use those songs however it wants.

In 2010, a shooting after one of Clinton’s concerts in Cleveland, Ohio, left one person dead and three others wounded. A 16-year-old was killed and a 14, 20, and 23-year-old were injured. Police were puzzled by the shooting since, stating, “George Clinton and the other bands are basically from back in the 80s, that’s when they were at the height of their popularity. It’s not like it was a Lil Wayne concert or something when you have a bunch of 16, 17, 18-year-olds.”

Morrissey cancels tour, British singer Morrissey has canceled the remainder of his U.S. tour for medical reasons, after suffering a number of ailments in recent months including a bleeding ulcer and double pneumonia, his spokeswoman said. LOS ANGELES (Reuters)

The former front man for the alternative rock band The Smiths has pulled out of the last 22 concerts on his itinerary, starting with one scheduled for Monday in Lawrence, Kansas, his publicist, Lauren Papapietro, said late on Friday.

"Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour," she said in a statement. "Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts."

The canceled shows include stops in Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Phoenix and Denver. The tour had been set to wrap up in San Francisco on April 30.

Morrissey, 53, already had canceled 21 shows over the past year, according to Rolling Stone magazine.
